Take Advantage of the Time Change to Start Working Out Early

I’m a reluctant morning exerciser. I hate waking up at 6, but my day goes better when I get my workout in early. This week is a special week, then, for folks like me (and commenter Sailor Jupiter, who thinks like I do). The time change has gifted us with an extra morning hour. Waking up, the hardest task of the day, has gotten a bit easier.

Maybe you enjoyed your extra hour this morning by sleeping in. Okay, great. But before your body gets too used to the shift, try setting your alarm an hour earlier. If that’s too much, compromise and make it a half hour. You won’t feel like you’re getting up early, but the clocks have changed, so in effect you kind of are.

If you don’t already work out in the mornings, but you always wished you could, now is your chance. Or if, like me, you do it grudgingly, set your alarm early enough to give yourself some extra time. There’s something luxurious about being able to take your time at the gym when normally you have to squeeze your last few exercises together and rush to work. Or perhaps you’d like to use the time to add an extra item to your morning routine, like a little time for journaling or omelet-making. Either way, this gift only comes once a year. Use it wisely.
