Only $7 a month for the ability to see one movie at the theater every day is pretty awesome, but there are some caveats. For one, MoviePass is trying to draw in more customers, so the $6.95 pricing is only available to new sign-ups. Also, to get the new pricing, you have to sign up for an annual subscription, and pay a one-time processing fee of $6.55. In total, that comes to a little under $90 for the year. Compare that to, say, seeing just one movie a month at $15 a ticket, which would cost you $180. Not bad, eh? Lastly, this subscription price does not include access to Fandor, the movie streaming service. MoviePass had offered a $7.95 a month deal with Fandor packaged in, but that’s no longer the case. Needless to say, the current $6.95 deal will likely not be around for long, so strike while the iron’s hot.
Recently, MoviePass came under fire for supposedly tracking users’ locations before and after the app was used without them knowing, but Mitch Lowe, CEO of MoviePass, made it clear that was not actually the case. Lowe said his remarks regarding knowing where people go and how they drive were taken the wrong way. MoviePass issued a formal statement to clear the air, noting that the service only makes a one-time check of your location when you are going to make a ticket purchase at the theater.
